This was the second time I stayed at Cabane de Moiry, high up in the Swiss Alps. I had stopped here two years earlier during a winter camping trip, and while retracing some of my steps in June 2026 on the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt, I couldn’t help but climb up here again.
The hut was still in winter mode, meaning there was no one stationed up there, and I had the entire place to myself. It had been cloudy all day, but every now and then the clouds would briefly part and reveal the peaks and Moiry Glacier behind them. Somehow, those fleeting glimpses feel much more rewarding to me than having blue skies and seeing the entire landscape all at once.
That evening, I sat outside waiting for one of those moments as the sun slowly began to set. For just a brief moment, the clouds opened and the last light illuminated one of the peaks above Moiry Glacier before it disappeared again.
Definitely one of my favorite photos from the entire trip.
