Films with no advertising inside them.

I make silent hiking films. No narration, no ad breaks, nothing interrupting the picture. Brands come into them the way they come into a film tour: an opening credit, a closing credit, and a name on a film that is still being watched years from now.

Why this works differently

People finish them

There is nothing to skip. No sponsor segment, no mid-roll break, no script. A forty-minute film gets watched as a film, which is why the retention holds and why the audience does not resent the brand that made it possible.

The credit never comes off

A spoken sponsor segment ages, dates the product line, and gets skipped. An opening credit is permanent. Films released three years ago are still collecting views today, and the partner is still on the front of every one of them.

The reach is larger than it looks

A film averages 572,811 views in its first year and keeps going. By comparison, the European Outdoor Film Tour reaches around 450,000 people a year across more than 800 events in 13 countries. One film out-reaches a full touring season.

What a partner gets

  • 01Opening presenting card. Five to eight seconds, set in my own typography, at the head of the film.
  • 02Closing card over the final frames.
  • 03Top-of-description block, above the fold, with one link.
  • 04Pinned comment carrying the same link.
  • 05In-frame product use, unremarked, where the gear is genuinely what I carry.
  • 06Community post on publication day.
  • 07Licensed still photography from the trip, delivered with usage rights.
  • 08Paid usage rights, so you can run cuts of the film as your own advertising.

What I do not do. No spoken advertising reads. No scripted product claims. No ad break inserted into the film. No supplied brand sting cut into the edit. These are not negotiable, and they are the reason the films work.

Where the films go

YouTube

488,000 subscribers. [XX]% of the audience in North America, [XX]% in Northern Europe. Average view duration [XX] minutes.

Connected television

The films are licensed onward to free ad-supported streaming and on-demand television platforms under existing distribution agreements. Your card travels with them.

Microsoft Start

Films are also distributed through Microsoft Start, reaching an audience that never touches YouTube.

For context on what that is worth: brands pay $15 to $25 per thousand impressions for streaming television inventory, and $20 to $40 for premium on-demand. A Film Partner package works out below $10 per thousand across a film's life.

Getting in touch

The strongest fit is a brand that wants to be associated with the places rather than explained by me. To save us both a round of emails, please include:

  • The brand, and the specific reason these films are a fit
  • Proposed deliverables, platforms and creative expectations
  • Paid and organic usage, territory, term and exclusivity
  • Any mandatory language, links, claims or approval stages
  • Working timeline, decision deadline and budget range

I answer everything that includes those five things. I read, but rarely answer, everything that does not.
